Have you ever wondered what makes a powerful, successful woman? What does she do throughout the day that makes her such a strong woman? I like to think about these things because I aspire to be a #girlboss or a #bosslady one day, and I’m working on it. You’ve probably wondered the same thing at some point but are probably stuck wondering what to do. How can you become a boss lady? Are there any habits you should develop in order to make this happen? In this post, I’m going to dive into 10 things that all powerful women do every day. I’m giving you a glimpse into the daily activities of some of the strongest, most influential women the world has ever known.
“Both success and failure are largely the result of habit.” Napoleon Hill
10 Things All Powerful Women Do Every Day
#1 THEY HAVE A PRODUCTIVE MORNING ROUTINE
When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing you do? Check your cellphone? Watch TV?
All powerful women have a set morning routine that they consistently follow. They know that the first things they do each day will determine how the rest of their day goes and plan their actions wisely.
Elle Russ, a best-selling author, starts her day with intention. She energizes her body to wake herself up then goes over her goals for the day.
I encourage you to do the same. Develop a morning routine that sets you up for success. Understanding your personality and the kind of day you wish to have will help you.
Set a wake-up schedule that gives you all the time you need before heading to work. Make a list the night before and follow it.
The most important thing is to discover how to be as productive as you can during your first few hours for the day.
#2 THEY KEEP LISTS
Have you ever wondered why powerful women keep lists? It keeps them organized and helps them to prioritize their day.
They know that having a list makes completing everything they need to do much more doable. It also helps them remember all the things they set out to accomplish for that day
Create a list of everything you need to get done, organize your list and make every effort to get the important items done first then work your way down the list.
I have a huge planner that I carry around with me all the time. I make a list of all my goals for the day then tick them off as I go.
If you want to think and act like a boss lady then you need to make lists like one.
#3 THEY CONSISTENTLY VISUALIZE SUCCESS
What exactly is visualization? Well according to Oprah Winfrey, it is consistently imagining the kind of life you want to have and what you will do to get there.
Before Oprah became a household name, she was very poor. She always told herself that life would be better, and she would work hard to have the quality of life she knew she deserved.
Countless influential women throughout history have used the power of visualization to realize their dreams.
The same goes for any woman who wants to become the best version of themselves.
Think about the kind of future you wish to have. Visualize your path to success and remind yourself every single day that you will get to where you need to be no matter what.
Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe Click To Tweet
#4 THEY PUSH THEMSELVES OUTSIDE THEIR COMFORT ZONES
Personal growth and development are of utmost importance to all powerful women, and they do their best to push themselves outside their comfort zones every day.
Think of your comfort zone as a box that prevents you from taking any risk or putting yourself in situations that stretch you.
The co-founder of CloudFlare, Michelle Zatlyn, swears by this. In her opinion, if you aren’t able to stretch yourself daily, then you’re not able to grow as a person and as an influential woman.
Are you shy and reserved? Is it hard for you to talk to many people at the same time?
Make it your mission every day to stand tall, speak clearly, say hi and put yourself out there.
Do something that puts you so far out of your comfort zone that you can’t find your way back.
#5 THEY ALWAYS HELP OTHERS
I’ve watched so many movies where the influential woman or the lady in charge steps on everyone below her or is just plain mean to all her employees.
This is not true of a really powerful woman. A successful woman tries to help others, out of a place of kindness, as much as she can.
They understand that the best way to truly connect with others is to be kind and to help them. There is no need to be ruthless to get themselves to the top.
Empowering other women is much more important than being mean and selfish.
#6 THEY SPEAK UP FOR THEMSELVES
I always find that there is a fine line between being loud and bossy, and speaking up for yourself. Successful women have mastered the latter.
They understand that they have thoughts and opinions, and those opinions need to be heard.
Whenever there is a meeting, they will speak up and assert themselves in a respectful manner.
This can be intimidating at times. One of the biggest obstacles that stand in the way of doing this is lack of knowledge on the topic of discussion.
So always ensure you do your homework and find your voice because it’s there.
#7 THEY ALWAYS EAT A GREAT BREAKFAST
You have heard that the most important meal of the day is breakfast.
For women in leadership, they take it up a notch by having a great breakfast packed with all the protein and energy they’ll need to kick butt that day.
Talk Show host Kelly Ripa always starts her day with a cappuccino, yoghurt and granola bars. This meal keeps her mind sharp and able to tackle the rest of her busy day.
Lots of powerful women drink their breakfasts if they are on the run. This can be a smoothie packed with green, proteins and healthy fats; all the things you need to start your day right.
There are tons of yummy, healthy breakfast recipes out there you just need to look.
Even Michelle Obama finds time to enjoy her scrambled eggs, turkey sausage and grapefruit every morning.
#8 THEY MAKE TIME FOR THEMSELVES
In the Japanese culture, sadly, death by overwork has its own word- karoushi. Even though we don’t have a specific word for this in English, it still happens all the time.
With schedules being so tight and meetings, meetings and meetings galore, it can be hard to find time for themselves. Successful women, however, always find time to rejuvenate themselves and to just relax.
This doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Find the time each day to take a nice, relaxing walk through the park to clear your head.
Spend an hour or so reading a book or taking a nice, long bath. The more you spend time taking care of yourself, the better able you’ll be to take on the world.
You cannot pour from an empty glass. Take care of yourself first. Click To Tweet
#9 THEY ARE ALWAYS ON TIME
One day, when I was speaking to a former manager of mine, she told me this “Women who want to be influential and women who want to be successful, need to know how to be punctual. I can’t tell you how many women I’ve seen fail because they don’t know how to manage their time.”
I completely understand where she was coming from. If you were to divide the world into two types of women, you’d find women who are always on time and always on top of their game and women who are forever running late.
From experience, I can tell you there are benefits of being punctual. One, she understands that everyone’s time is precious and thus always leaves a good impression and two, she gets more stuff done efficiently.
Being punctual is one trait that can kick-start your career so if you aren’t practising punctuality right now, there’s no better time to start.
#10 THEY ARE CONTINUOUSLY LEARNING
All powerful women know that the number one way to stay on top is to continuously learn and grow as a person.
For any #bosslady, knowledge is indeed power and they challenge themselves to learn at least one new thing every day.
They spend hours reading books, learning new skills and consistently increase their worth and value to the world.
Challenge yourself to do the same. Each day you should learn a new word and use it, or increase your knowledge on a new topic of interest.
You could also enrol in free online courses from coursera or open2study.
I’m currently working on increasing my knowledge of blogging, social media and personal development specifically for millennial women through paid and free online courses.
Plus, you’re never too late to learn something new.
WOMEN WHO CHANGE THE WORLD
Have you ever read the book “Girl Boss”? It was written by #bossbabe herself Sophia Amoruso. My favourite quote from her book is this: “You create the world, blink by blink. It is entirely yours to discover and yours to create.”
Becoming a powerful woman doesn’t happen by chance. It comes with work and developing habits that only successful women have.
From as far back as I can remember I have been told that powerful men rule the world but that’s not true.
There have been some amazing women who have changed the world, and you can too.
Strive to be the best you can be, to discover the habits you need to be successful and practice them daily.
