Become A Happier Person In Just 10 Minutes A Day

Take out a picture of yourself and look at it. What do you see? If you are smiling, does the person in the picture accurately represent who you are? If not, is that the real you? So many people in today’s society walk around with smiles on their faces. They walk around with a mask to try and hide how hollow they truly feel on the inside. They post the best aspects of their life on Facebook and Instagram when in reality they’re so sad they can barely breathe. If this is you, don’t worry. In this post, you will learn how to become a happier person in just 10 minutes a day.

“Be that girl that smiles when others look at her. Be that girl who stays positive when everyone else complains. Be that girl who chooses to be happy.”

Minute 1: Go To A Mirror

I need you to go to any mirror in your house that is big enough for you to see your reflection. Ensure you are in a well-lit area and look at yourself. Really look.

Examine your eyes, your ears and the weird way your nose wrinkles when you smile. Do you see that?

There is a beautiful, amazing and fly person looking back. Now smile. Smile and count to thirty.


Minute 2: List One Positive Aspect Of Your Personality

Get a piece of paper. It doesn’t have to be big and grab a pen. Think for about 10 to 20 seconds.

Write the first positive aspect of your personality that you can think of and write it down. If needed, you can draw a picture that helps to explain it. Look at the piece of paper for about 10 seconds.

Every time you believe you aren’t worthy or your self-esteem isn’t where it needs to be, look back at that piece of paper.


Minute 3: Take A Deep Breath

Find a spot on the floor and sit down. Now take a deep breath. In and out. Continue doing this for about 30 seconds at a time pausing in between.

When we train our bodies to breathe deeply and slowly in our everyday lives, we teach our bodies to relax. The more relaxed our body becomes the happier we tend to be.


Minute 4: Do A Silly Dance

Get up off the floor and find some space where you can move. It doesn’t have to be a large amount of room unless you really want to bust a move.

Now that you’ve found your space, think of the silliest song you’ve ever heard in your life and start moving. Be silly and just let all your stress and frustrations go with each step you make.

I can assure you that as you dance, you’ll start laughing and that laughter is what you’re looking for.


Minute 5: Drink A Big Cup Of Water

Water is an extremely important aspect of our lives as a large percentage of our bodies is made up of the stuff. Drinking a big cup of water is a great way to flush the body, cleanse the system and improve how our tissues function.

By ridding the body of toxins that might be affecting how our brains work and thus affect out happiness levels. So take the minute, fill up a huge glass of water and take a nice, long drink today.

Look at that you’re halfway on your journey to become a happier person.


Minute 6: Say What You’re Thankful For

Do you remember that piece of paper from minute 2? You do? Fantastic! Grab it again and grab that same pencil.

Now turn the paper over and write down at least one thing that you are thankful for. It could be that you’re thankful for waking up this morning, or your mom, or that delicious piece of fried chicken you ate yesterday.

Just take the minute and write it down. If you need to, draw a picture. Anytime you feel like life is just not worth it, look at that piece of paper.


Minute 7: Think Of Your Happiest Moment

Now that you’ve written down what you are thankful for, take this time to think about your happiest moment.

What day in your life was you the happiest you have ever been? What moment made you smile so much you thought your face would stay that way?

Every single day I want you to take a minute out of the twenty-four hours to remember that moment. If you are ever feeling sad, ensure that moment brings you back from that dark place.


Minute 8: Draw A Picture Of A Heart

I know you’re probably tired of writing by this time but I promise you it is almost over. Grab the same pen you’ve been using so far and another piece of paper.

This time, I think it should be fairly big. Draw a big enough heart right in the center. It doesn’t have to be perfect.  It just needs to be big enough.


Minute 9: Fill It With Wonderful Things

Now take that heart and draw all the wonderful things that you have in your life. If it’s just one thing, then ensure that one thing fills up the entire heart. Please include people, events, possessions etc. Anything goes.

Do you see what you drew? Those things are all the reasons you should smile. Even when the world feels like it’s upside down, look at that heart and remember just how blessed you are.

Remember that someone somewhere has things much worse than you ever could and that even if you don’t have everything you want right now, you have everything you need.


Minute 10: Write One Bad Thing

Finally, minute 10. Congratulations! You made it. Grab a piece of tissue or a small piece of paper.

Do not use the ones you have been using thus far. Now take out a pen or a huge black marker and write down one bad thing that has happened or is happening in your life.

After you’re done writing that down, burn it. This is one thing that you will no longer worry about. You will no longer cry about it. Leave it alone. Worrying and crying just take away from your happiness. So let it go.

So there you have it. 10 ways you can become a happier person in just 10 minutes a day.

    I am going to have to sit and write these down and try and do them daily, I think they are such good ideas, I’ve heard repeating things in a mirror can really make a difference as well.

    My heart! I love the little girl’s smile captured in the first photograph. I totally agree, in my younger years I would often feel that I wore a mask. What was even more upsetting and still is, is when people tell you to smile when you’re in a good mood but because you don’t smile all the time it is assumed you’re not in a good mood.
    Keeping a positive outlook as often as you can will definitely shift your way of life.

    These are such great steps. I definitely agree that true happiness is hard to come by in this day in age, especially with social media. We are constantly bombarded with pictures and videos and texts about how great someone’s life is, and we can’t help but compare it to our own – so then we join the vicious cycle of posting things that make us look like we’re living our best lives. For me, happiness is more present when I take time to take care of myself and like you said, drink water. SO important! Being cognizant of all my blessings and taking deep breaths also are very helpful. I’ll have to try out your other tips and see how they work out for me!
