“I’ll do it tomorrow …” I’ve only said that 5 days in a row.

I’d like to think I am an organized and productive person and when it comes to my work life I can definitely say I stick to a plan and I get the job done.

But more recently when I have been trying to set up my blog and trying to go it alone, I have quickly realized when I am not on a schedule or someone else’s payroll my productivity suffers and I have a hard time getting things done.

At first, it was the novelty of having time off in the week; whilst everyone else was busy with the 9-5 I could do my errands stress-free, the shops were empty, the roads were clear and I never had to wait for a car parking space – pure bliss.

After a few “lunch dates” I realized that this was never going to work if I classed the half of the week where I am not in the 9-5 club as free time … I had to be more productive in both areas of my life.

Have you ever been slightly envious of those people who seem to have their whole life sorted? You know the ones I am referring to, the people who remember every birthday, they are never late or in a rush and say things like “You haven’t done that yet? I finished weeks ago.”

Part of me hates them, and part of me wants to be just like them; having a schedule that runs like clockwork rather than my current process of I’ll get round to that at some point. 

So I thought I’d make a change and get on track with my personal life and my side hustle, and hopefully, in turn, I’ll stop being referred to as the girl who always forgets plans and doesn’t text you back for two weeks; because well who has time to catch up with a group chat?

Or am I the only one? Hehe!



These are the 10 methods I have implemented in my life to ensure I am getting things done and to help me be more productive.

  1. Make A Plan Of Action 

Sundays are all about lazy duvet days, recovering from your hangover whilst you binge-watch bad movies but try to put aside half an hour to do something more productive. 

I have a weekly goal notepad that works perfectly for me but whether you use your phone calendar, a notebook or a diary start writing your goals down.

Plan your week day by day and make sure to tick off each task as you accomplish it. It is always a good idea to have your plan of action handy, so you can remind yourself what you need to do each morning.


  1. Reassess Your Action Plan 

There is one thing writing lists and lists of all your plans but it is another to actually put that into action. We all have busy days and sometimes there is not enough time to finish off every action planned; but if you review your goals mid-week, it is an ideal chance to re-evaluate the week and ensure everything gets completed. 

It also a chance to reflect on your successes; do take time out to realize how efficient you are being and how great you are and what areas need some improvement then go from there. 


  1. Turn Off Notifications 

We are now all obsessed with our phones, it’s almost impossible to have a conversation without someone getting out their phone to check their email, to scroll through Facebook or to take countless pictures of their food.

But what are we missing when we are glued to the screen and how many hours do we waste by scrolling? (I could literally waste the entire day by simply watching 2 minute YouTube clips). So next time you need to get a task done, switch off the phone and focus only on the task at hand. 

Without the distraction of those pings or flashes on your phone, you will get so much done and you might actually find it refreshing to have a bit of time away from the digital world.

  1. Have Dedicated Work Time 

With everyone working more and more hours per week the line between the working day and your personal time can become too blurred.

Stop taking the laptop to bed with you to go through those last few emails before lights out and establish boundaries.

If you have told yourself you are going to work until 5 pm, then at 5 pm on the dot you need to switch off and give yourself time to relax.

Your family and friends will definitely appreciate more one to one time and having time off will make you more focused and productive when you are actually at work.


  1. Make Sure You Get Enough Sleep

Didn’t your Mother always tell you to get your beauty sleep? Well, there is a good reason for that.

If you are pushing yourself through the working days with several cups of coffee and far too many energy drinks then it is time to get into bed and go to sleep.

Not getting enough sleep is a bad habit that so many of us need to break.

It is different for everyone. Whether you work better with 6 hours or 8, or if you are lucky enough to get a full 12, you need to fluff those pillows and get to bed.


  1. Note Everything Down

I have far too many notebooks, and I keep them even when they are all filled up as you never know what great ideas you wrote down and might need to go back to.

No one’s memory is good enough to remember every tiny little things so don’t try.

This made a huge difference for me, and I dramatically increased my productivity by having it all stored in one convenient place.

I always keep my notebook by my bed because, just as your falling asleep, that seems to be the time when my brain reminds me of all those important details it neglected to inform me of earlier in the day.

I don’t spend the night obsessing over them though, instead, I write them down and forget about them until the next morning. 


  1. Know When To Say No

When you are juggling multiple tasks, it is hard to keep everything going but the eagerness to please means you keep saying yes to everyone; whether that be at work or with family. 

Discipline yourself and if you don’t have the time then don’t take on more than you can actually do.

You aren’t letting people down, you are just giving yourself more time to do each task correctly the first time instead of just rushing through things.

  1. Ask For A Helping Hand

You’re busy doing everything and you think all the pressure should land on you but that’s not the truth; ask the people around you to chip in.

Next time you’re busy at work and the fridge is empty and there is nothing for tea, instead of running around madly trying to get it done, why not call your partner/family member and see if they don’t mind picking up some bits from the shop.

There are so many people around you willing to help but they might not even know you need it without you asking. Remember that no-one can help you if you aren’t willing to fill them in on your needs.


  1. Don’t Work Harder, Work SMARTER

Sometimes you are just busy for the sake of being busy. Start looking for better ways of working, methods that could save you time, or help you become more productive using less time and resources.

There are so many apps nowadays that can auto-schedule almost every aspect of your life so do a bit of research.

I’m not great with social media, but it’s essential for my blog so instead of spending hours and hours online I use tools to do it for me and best of all most of them are free!

So if you are feeling like you are just repeating yourself or don’t know the reason why you are doing something then stop. Don’t just do more work because you feel it helps. It really doesn’t.


  1. Have Realistic Goals

It is great to have goals and be super ambitious but don’t set yourself up to fail. If you set huge goals with short timelines then you just going to make yourself feel overwhelmed. 

Break down each goal and make it more manageable; it is better to have a goal that you achieve after 3 months than try to push it all into a week and end up tearing your hair out in the process. 

Set realistic goals, pace yourself and get more tasks accomplished.



I don’t know the reasons you might have for following this structure. It could be to get more structure in your job or so that you can balance work with your side hustle, or even just putting them into place so you can better organize your personal life.

Whatever reason you have, utilizing my tips and trips will most definitely help you to live a less stressful life, be more productive and lead a more focused life where things run smoothly. 

I am a newbie to working with this system but so far I have managed to work on my blog, whilst maintaining my job and more impressively not letting my house look like a bomb was set off all the time. (It is definitely the small achievements that have the greatest level of satisfaction).
