There comes a time in all our lives when we start to wonder. Are we doing the right things? Is it that we’re running around with our heads chopped off, getting nothing done in the process? I’ve been to that point and I know you have too. Since I was a child, I always had a vision of what my life would be like in ten or twenty years. Circumstances caused that vision to shift and for a while I was incredibly lost. It took me years of trying and failing, and trying again to really figure out that I was doing it all wrong. I’ve finally begun the long journey of carving my own destiny and I’m going to show you how to redefine and redesign your life so that you can carve your own destiny too.
“Never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again.”
1 Evaluate Your Life
The most important step on the path to changing your path in life and fulfilling your destiny is to evaluate your life.Click To Tweet Take some time and try to figure where it is that are in your life. Have you hit a road block? Are you travelling in the wrong direction? It may take you a few minutes to a few days to figure out the answers to these questions but try to take your time.
I suggest getting a notebook and making lists to help you better understand. What have you been doing wrong so far? Is there anything that you’ve been doing right? Expand on those questions to identify all your accomplishments and failures and try to figure out where you went wrong and what needs to be done in order to redefine and redesign your life. It doesn’t have to be any one mistake. It could be a series of errors. Just do your best to identify them all.
2 Visualize Your Destination
Once you have figured out where you are in life, it is time to identify where you need to be. Where do you see yourself going? What exactly is the end goal after it’s all said and done? I find that pictures really say a thousand words so, for me, drawing pictures and graphs really helped me to visualize my goals.
Using the same notebook, take two or three pages to draw your final destination in life. Define and design your own ending. Do you want to own your own company? Then draw pictures of it all. Is your goal in life to become an actor, blogger or musician? Think about the visual clues that will help to motivate you.
At this point, creating a vision board would be an excellent idea. Here are a few that I love and maybe you could fall in love with too.
3 Build A Road-map
Now that you’ve identified where you want to be in life, it is time to start building the road-map. This road-map will be the path that you will take to connect where you are in your life right now to where you want to be. Setting SMART short-term goals will be a great way to begin construction of the map.
A SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. One of the fastest ways to waste your time and everyone else’s is to build a road-map that leads to nowhere. Another way is to fill your road-map with empty, unattainable goals that leave you frustrated and tired. So take your time and carefully think about those short-term goals. Do your research and ask yourself specific questions so that you can find the specific answer you need.
4 Organize Your List
At this point you should have your goals and dreams in mind. The next thing to do is to organize your list. You need to decide when and in what order each item on your list needs to be done. For example, if your end goal is to become a judge then you might have the following items on your road-map :
– pass the bar
– enroll in law school
– apply for internship
In organizing your road-map, however, you need to put them in the correct, logical order so that you’re able to accomplish them in a timely manner. Think of your goals as ABCs and just put them in order from A to Z.Click To Tweet
5 Make Changes
In this world and any world, as a matter of fact, talk is cheap. Our actions say more than any words ever could. If you really want to make a change in your life and become the person you were meant to be, you need to start making changes.
If you’ve been doing the same thing up until this point in your life, it’s time to start fresh. Turn over that new leaf and commit to changing all the habits that led you to this point in your life. Be deliberate and disciplined about this. If one of your goals requires you to go to school, then now is the time to start buckling down and study.
Use the road-map that you built-in step three to keep yourself motivated. Don’t try to do everything all at once or you’ll be setting yourself up to fail very quickly. Try starting small and gradually building up to larger changes. Please, also, don’t try to do multiple changes at the same time. Remember you need to remain deliberate about your actions.
6 Get Support
When I made the decision to move halfway across the world on my journey to changing my life, I spoke with my mother. Having her support throughout the entire process, really helped to make things a bit easier to handle. There were times when I questioned my resolve to make the move and every single time she would help me to remember why I was doing it.
Find someone who you can trust. Surround yourself with those who will help you accomplish your goals and/or keep you going towards them. The mistake many of us make is not having the right people in our corner. Because we have been friends with a particular group of people since we were children, we keep hanging around them. This is regardless of whether they mean us well or not.
You have to decide. Are these people helping you to move forward or holding you back? It can only be either/or but it most definitely cannot be both.
7 Be Patient
Finally, I ask you to be patient. There is an old saying that goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. The same can be said of you and me. You will not accomplish it all in the space of one day or even one month. Consistent change takes time.
Remember that you were doing things a certain way for a very long time.
It is going to take a while for your changes to become habits and for your habits to help you achieve your goals. The good news is that with each day that you stick to your roadmap, you make one step closer to your destination.
So many people give up because the road seems long and narrow, and never realize how close them came to making it.
I started my journey a little over eighteen months ago. It started off pretty wobbly and there were many days I wanted to give up. I’m glad I didn’t. During that time I realized my love for fashion illustration. I was able to figure out that blogging and photography are wonderful ways to express yourself and help others as well.
If you’re at that crossroads, it’s okay. Like I said, I’ve been there too. I was also stuck there for a really long time. Learn from my mistakes, get out there and redefine and redesign your life. You can do it. The only one preventing you from reaching your full potential is you………
There you have it. Here are seven easy and fantastic ways to learn how to redefine and redesign your life.
