How To Redefine And Redesign Your Life For Success!

How To Redefine And Redesign Your Life For Success!

Have you ever felt the need to completely change your life and your circumstances by reinventing yourself? There comes a time in our lives when we begin to wonder if we’re living up to our full potential or if there’s something more to life than this. I went through this phase of redefining and redesigning my life a few years ago, and I can help you through your very own process of reinvention. Change is never an easy process but in this post, I’m giving you the 7 steps I took to reinvent myself and advice to help you along your journey to a higher level of existence!

“If you are not where you want to be, do not quit. Instead, reinvent yourself and change your habits.” Eric Thomas

How To Redefine And Redesign Your Life In 7 Steps

1 EVALUATE YOUR LIFE

Before you begin this path of reinvention, you need to take a detailed look at the life you’re living right now. There are a number of ways to do this but one of my favourite ways to evaluate what I’ve done so far is journaling.

When you write down the things you do each day, you’re able to identify where you’ve been making great progress, along with the parts of your life that need some work.

Two years ago, I realized that it was time to redefine and redesign who I was because I was feeling absolutely lost. I had a job and I had friends but there was still something huge missing. There was a gaping hole in my heart and I felt like I was stuck in a “life trap”.

The most important step on the path to changing your path in life and fulfilling your destiny is to evaluate your life. Click To Tweet

You might be feeling the same way too. Take some time to journal, and try to figure out where you are in your life. Have you hit a roadblock? Are you travelling in the wrong direction? Do you feel like you’re just not living up to your full potential?

It may take you a few minutes to a few days to figure out the answers to these questions but try to take your time. Rushing the process will not help you.

I suggest getting a notebook and making lists to help you get your thoughts out. Think about all the things you might have been doing wrong and what you need to do to fix them.

It might be that you’ve lost your job or things just haven’t been working out the way you think they should be. Evaluating your life is the first, positive step towards creating a legacy you’ll be proud of.

2 VISUALIZE WHAT YOU WANT

Visualization has become one of my favourite ways to program my mind for success. When you can see exactly where you want to be in life, you have a much greater chance of achieving that goal.

Redesigning your life has a lot to do with understanding what the end goal for yourself is, and once you know where the finish line is you can then take the necessary steps to get there.

If you have absolutely no idea where you want to be in life, then reinventing yourself is impossible. You must have a clear picture of what the best version of yourself looks like so you can move forward.

When Oprah was young. She was poor and she was abused. But she knew exactly where she wanted to end up in the next ten, twenty years and that vision of herself helped her to become the powerful woman she is today.

What exactly is the end goal after it’s all said and done? Do you have any idea where you want to be? I find that pictures really say a thousand words so, for me, drawing pictures and graphs really helped me to visualize my goals.

Using the same notebook, take two or three pages to draw your final destination in life.

Define and design your own ending. Do you want your own company? Then draw pictures of it.

Close your eyes and sit for thirty minutes a day just visualizing yourself succeeding and I guarantee that your mind will do everything it can to get you to that destination.

Visualizing your dream destination makes you more passionate, excited and determined. See yourself doing what you want, and never let go of that picture until you manifest it.

3 MAKE A PLAN FOR SUCCESS

Now that you’ve identified where you want to be in life, it is time to start building your road-map for success. This road-map will be the path that you will take to connect where you are in your life right now to where you want to be.

Many of us know how to set goals because they’re easy to make. The issue comes from us not knowing how to really stick to those goals so we can change where we are in life.

SMART goals give you clarity and focus for your life. They make it easier for you to connect your present self to your future self. Your future self is successful, capable, independent and happy. These SMART goals help you get from here to there.

A goal is a dream with a deadline. Click To Tweet

A SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. One of the fastest ways to waste your time and everyone else’s is to build a road-map that leads to nowhere.

Working backwards is a great way to ensure that your plan will be effective. Look at how long it will take you to get to the destination then break down your larger goals into smaller, specific and time-bound goals.

This will leave you feeling less overwhelmed and you’ll have a better chance of sticking to the road-map you’ve created.

Filling your master plan with empty, unattainable goals will leave you frustrated and tired. So take your time and carefully think about those short-term goals.

Setting reinvention goals is the first step to turning the invisible into the visible.

4 ORGANIZE YOUR TO-DO LIST

When you’re reinventing yourself, you are building a better version of who you are because of where you want to be. Once you’ve set your goals, you need to organize your to-do list so you’ll be able to take action.

I’ve been using to-do lists for a while now and have learned quite a few tricks to help you make the most of yours. Redesigning your life is never easy, and there is often a lot of chaos involved.

By dividing your list into sections, you’re better able to tackle the things you need to do in the order you need to do them.

You can’t do everything you want to do all at the same time so grouping similar tasks together is also a technique that has contributed to my success.

For example, if your end goal is to become a TV Show Personality, then you might have the following items on your road-map :

– apply to university

– do a major in communication

– apply for internships at local TV stations, etc

Dividing your to-do list into sections and batching processes will aid concentration and prevent resistance.

Your to-do list there to guide you, not overwhelm you. Remember that.

Think of your goals as ABCs and just put them in order from A to Z. Click To Tweet

5 TAKE ACTION AND MAKE CHANGES

Once you’ve completed the above steps, the next thing you need to do is follow through on the goals you’ve set. Taking action is one of (if not) the most necessary steps in effecting changes in your life.

In this world and any world, as a matter of fact, talk is cheap. Our actions say more than any words ever could. If you really want to make a change in your life and become the person you were meant to be, you need to start making changes.

If you’ve been doing the same thing up until this point in your life, it’s time to start fresh. Turn over that new leaf and commit to changing all the habits that led you to this point in your life.

Be deliberate and disciplined about this because self-discipline will take you further than motivation ever will. Never waste your time doing things and tasks that will bring you nowhere closer to your goals. Be aware of your timelines and make things happen.

If one of your reinvention goals requires you to go to school four nights a week, then now is the time to enrol, buy your textbooks and start studying.

Use the plan for success that you built in step three to keep track of where you are and how much time you have between goals. As you redefine and redesign your life, you have the unique opportunity to choose, each and every day, how much progress you are going to make.

Taking action is a fundamental key to being successful. An inch of movement per day will bring you closer to your best future than a mile of intention.

6 GET SUPPORT FROM OTHERS

As you move further along the path of reinvention, it is essential that you get support from others around you.

When I made the daunting decision to move halfway across the world so that I would be able to create a new life for myself, I spoke with my mother and father. At first, they were just as terrified as I was, but their support throughout the entire process really helped to make things a bit easier to handle.

There were times when I questioned my resolve to make the move and every single time, my mother would help remind me of why I was doing it.

Find someone who you can trust. Surround yourself with those who will help you accomplish your goals and/or keep you going towards them. The mistake many of us make is not having the right people in our corner.

Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers. But most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness in you. Click To Tweet

Because we have been friends with a particular group of people since we were children, we keep hanging around them. We need to learn when to remove people from our lives who will always keep us back.

Having the right people in your circle can mean the difference between taking ten steps forward and falling twenty steps back.

You have to decide. Are these people helping you to move forward or holding you back? It can only be either/or but it most definitely cannot be both.

Find someone who wants to invest in your reinvention, learn from you, see you win, and support your visions.

7 BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF

Finally, I ask you to be patient. There is an old saying that goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. The same can be said of you and me. You will not accomplish everything you want to in the space of one day or even one month. Consistent change takes time.

Being patient with yourself is key as you go through the stages of personal growth necessary to properly redefine and redesign your life.

Remember that you were doing things a certain way for a very long time, and it is impossible for you to make and see all the changes you want to quickly and easily.

It is going to take a while for your changes to become habits and for your habits to help you achieve your goals.

I started my blog almost a year ago, and immediately, I wanted thousands and thousands of fans to flock to my blog. At the time I didn’t understand that building a platform, whether digitally or brick and mortar, takes time, and since I was impatient, there were many times I wanted to give up.

It has taken me months and months of trial and error to finally understand that patience is key when it comes to reinventing yourself.

The good news is that with each day that you stick to your road-map, you make one step closer to your destination. So many people give up because the road seems long and narrow, and never realize how close they came to making it.

TAKE BACK CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE

The longer I’ve been on my journey to reinvention, I’ve learned too from my own reinventions that it’s often the small things we do in life that have the biggest impact on our lives.

Regaining control of your life means taking complete responsibility for where you are, and deciding that from this moment on, things are going to be different. You’re going to be different.

Maybe you’re at a crossroads right now and you want to take an active role in your life.

No matter how old you are, or how many mistakes you’ve made in your life, you can always make a change.

Embrace the fact that you’re stuck, make a conscious decision to move past those restrictions then go out there and successfully reinvent yourself.

Life isn’t about finding yourself. It’s about creating who it is that you want to be.

These are wonderful tips! I love how you broke everything down and I am SO glad that you included being patient. I think this is something that I need to personally work on as well as trusting in the process. There have been so many things that I have accomplished in my life that I remember worrying SO much about throughout the process instead of just trusting and enjoying the journey. Thanks for such an inspiring post with some great reminders!

    • February 11, 2018 / 7:08 PM

You are so welcome. I think in the midst of chasing our dreams we forget to be patient with ourselves but it is so important.

Excellent article. I decided this year that I should do more for myself. I did this last year as well and failed. But with the scar thought of that experience repeating itself, I did had a better start this year. It’s a long journey ahead of me, so this is encouraging to read about others who did the same, and some tips and tricks they can offer.

    • February 11, 2018 / 6:47 PM

I am happy that you have decided to try one more time. There is so much you can do if you just try.

  4. February 5, 2018 / 10:40 PM

What great tips! I do try to always be patient even when I’m frustrated. And I have started to make more lists.

  5. February 5, 2018 / 11:35 PM

It is so important to change a few things and just get re-inspired with life to help you. I did the same thing I moved back to the US from Panama to pursue my blogging and become a full-time blogger.

    • February 11, 2018 / 4:50 PM

Congratulations on that. Good luck with your blog 🙂

  6. February 5, 2018 / 11:57 PM

Such a good reminder for all of us especially those who are feeling stuck. I think it’s important that we evaluate our lives from time to time to make sure we’re on the path that we want to be on.

    • February 11, 2018 / 4:44 PM

Yes there will come times when we feel stuck but that’s when we really need to refocus.

  7. February 6, 2018 / 12:47 AM

This is such great advice. I’m in the process of ‘redesigning’ my life as we speak. I’ve learned so much about myself, it’s been one of the best journey’s of my life so far!

  8. February 6, 2018 / 1:18 AM

Writing down my goals is far easier than doing them. I am the queen of excuses, no matter what the goal is. No matter what is on my to do list. I am working on being better at this.

    • February 11, 2018 / 6:11 PM

Star small. If you try to tackle one of the things on your list on a daily basis, you’ll be surprised how quickly you get everything done.

I think I am in a nice place in like right now, thanks for asking! Also, I liked these tips. The part about setting SMART goals has to be my favorite part of this blog post.

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:55 PM

Thank you so much. If your goals aren’t SMART then it is easy for you to get frustrated when it seems like you’re going nowhere.

This is great advice Dee! I completely agree with your suggestions and love your encouragement to take action! I find that sometimes we get caught in the planning but stall on taking action. It’s so important!

    • February 9, 2018 / 6:01 PM

Yes it is very easy to plan but so much more difficult to actually go ahead and do it.

  19. February 6, 2018 / 11:25 AM

This is a great post! I am going to also download your free bullet journal~

  20. February 6, 2018 / 12:15 PM

This is very deep. Reading this piece has made me realise some things about my own life too. I’m really good at writing things down and especially visualisation but when it comes to asking for help. Well that I find difficult. Thank you for this detailed post.

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:59 PM

I know it ca be hard to ask for help but sometimes we really need it.

  25. February 6, 2018 / 3:52 PM

These are really great tips to get your life redirected the way you want it to go. I also think positive affirmations and reminding yourself that you deserve the things you want regularly, goes a long way for me. 🙂

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:34 AM

Ooh I love positive affirmations. They are so effective!

  26. February 6, 2018 / 4:10 PM

All such important and great tips. Even if one follows a few of them, they’ll definitely be leading a happier and a more purposeful life.

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:32 AM

Aww thank you. I hope that each step is able to help at least one person regardless of where along the path they are.

  27. February 6, 2018 / 4:16 PM

We have to focus on what we head for to aim. Crossroads and handicaps are likely to deal with. But patience and consistency will lead us the way..

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:32 AM

Yes patience and consistency are key to success.

  28. February 6, 2018 / 5:25 PM

I love this post! I love the concept of “redesigning your life” and number six is my favorite! Great post!

  29. February 6, 2018 / 6:02 PM

This was helpful. I’m in this place, currently trying to focus on the new chapters of my life.

  30. February 6, 2018 / 7:40 PM

Change must come from you. The fact that 18 months ago you were able to tell yourself that you need to make these changes shows strength in your character and speaks volumes about your discipline. Some people are unable to see that they need to make lifestyle changes completely.

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:30 AM

Thank you. It took me a while but I am glad I am on a better path now.

  31. February 6, 2018 / 8:11 PM

This is EXACTLY what I needed!!! I recently have been feeling “lost” with work lately. I know what I want, I’m just having trouble getting there. I especially need patience and to just get my list in order and implement all these steps. I’ve been just wanting everything to get done at one time and it’s become just a jumbled mess of half done thoughts and tasks.

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:29 AM

Slow down. Take your time and do each thing one step at a time. When we try to do it all we end up getting nothing done.

    February 6, 2018 / 8:17 PM

Its great to read things like this. Very interesting!!! Will surely take note all of these.

  33. February 6, 2018 / 9:10 PM

I love this! I especially love the part about drawing a road map! Thanks for sharing

  34. February 6, 2018 / 11:30 PM

Ohh this is a very encouraging and helpful post especially to those who doesn’t know how to start to assess their lives. Brief and concise write-up.

  35. February 6, 2018 / 11:52 PM

I have to commend myself in that I have defined my life extremely well thus far. And I truly love it – despite “bad days”. I use said “bad days” as motivation to make good days in the near future!

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:26 AM

That’s wonderful. Keep on planning out your path and use those days as encouragement.

Great tips on how to redesign your life. Sometimes we need blueprints and roadmaps.

  38. February 7, 2018 / 2:01 AM

Great points. I think some of these points are easy, even fun… hello vision board! But that last one, being patient is so hard! 🙂

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:25 AM

Yes they weren’t kidding when they said that patience is a virtue. I think if you practice patience you can become more patient.

  39. February 7, 2018 / 2:50 AM

These are all great tips. But making change is probably the hardest thing for everyone. So inspiring to read this!

  40. February 7, 2018 / 3:13 AM

Oh, this is such a timely post! I’m in the process of figuring out who I am and what I want my life to look like and honestly, I get so overwhelmed with which steps to take that I just don’t take any. That mindset keeps me stuck! They say the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time and your suggestions here are awesome! I’m so going to start my map!

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:24 AM

  46. February 7, 2018 / 5:24 AM

My life changed so often in the past years, and every time it does, I feel like I’m at the crossroads between what I gain and what I loose. It is always difficult, but I guess that someone that supports you may be the push you need!

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:20 AM

Yes, sometimes all you need is support from someone who cares.

  48. February 7, 2018 / 7:16 AM

Listen… I love everything about this post. I have been working on shifting things in my life for the past year. I identified with several points you made and will connect the dots with others I hadn’t thought of.

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:20 AM

Thank you so much. It really took me going through a horrible experience to realize how far-gone I had been. Good luck.

  49. February 7, 2018 / 7:30 AM

Couldn’t agree more with you – especially with the patience aspect of redesigning your life. Sometimes it takes time to get all of this to come together… so patience is definitely key.

    • February 7, 2018 / 8:05 AM

Yes sometimes we want things to be so instant but it does take time.

  50. February 7, 2018 / 7:47 AM

This is such a great post! even when we are going “good” and we are successful at work or studies we should think twice if we are really happy and we are accomplishing something meaningful with our life! Thanks for the great advice!

  51. February 7, 2018 / 8:40 AM

This was a lot of awesome information. I know that I personally had to take a step back and reevaluate and change my life last year. Thank you for getting this information out for everyone =)

  52. February 7, 2018 / 9:01 AM

What an amazing post. It’s so important to take time out to make sure you’re heading in the right direction.

  53. February 7, 2018 / 9:42 AM

Love this! The steps in which you suggested make so much sense. I need to sit and do this.

  54. February 7, 2018 / 9:47 AM

I seriously love, love, love this! I need to really focus on the road map… I’m slacking!

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:40 PM

Thank you. I would love to see what your road-map looks like.

  55. February 7, 2018 / 9:51 AM

Great Post! I loved all of the tips. I just went through this….this is good stuff.

  56. February 7, 2018 / 10:17 AM

It is so great to have goals and a vision for your life. But one thing I have learned on my journey is that you can’t plan everything. Expect the unexpected and plan to be surprised along the way. This mindset has helped me get through my struggles and let go of control when I needed to.

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:35 PM

Yes that is true. You will need to roll with the punches at times

  57. February 7, 2018 / 10:51 AM

For me, patience is really, really hard. I’m sure it is for most people. I just always want to see results instantly! haha

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:29 PM

I know. But I have had to figure out that some things in life are worth the risk

  58. February 7, 2018 / 11:03 AM

This is really a great way to get started on making those changes you want in your life. We first have to identify those changes and then decide on what we need to get to making those changes reality. Sometimes it’s hard to be patient for the results but it’ll be well worth the wait.

What you need to do is just stay focused on your goal. It takes work to be successful and not everything will be instant. This isn’t an instant ramen noodle world lol

  66. February 7, 2018 / 8:41 PM

Thank you very much for the post. It’s really encouraging. I began to redefine my life first three years ago, and then I started to make some more important steps 11 months ago (I started working from home and writing a blog). This year I decided to dedicate myself to health and appearance.

This is exactly what i needed to read today! I have been so close to giving up, somedays are more challenging than others when it comes to blogging! I definetely need more patience, blogging needs a lot of effort and time, and i keep telling myself consistency is key! Thabks for this post❤️

  78. February 8, 2018 / 3:41 AM

I love the idea of planning a road trip. I’ve always wanted to, but it hasn’t been easy with the kids in school and their after-school activities. Maybe sometime in the summer we’ll plan something. Great post overall.

    • February 8, 2018 / 9:08 AM

Now that you’ve recognized the issue, you can go ahead and figure out ways to fix it.

  80. February 8, 2018 / 9:03 AM

Great steps to redesign your life. I think many people believe that they are stuck where they are. Hopefully, your comments will give others the courage to take a risk and move to a better place.

  81. February 8, 2018 / 12:18 PM

Your suggestions are great. I love “make a list” and “build a road map.”

  82. February 8, 2018 / 4:48 PM

All of these steps would be essential to redefining your life. You would need to know where you were before you could make any change. And then you would need to plan and prepare in order for that change to come about.

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:03 PM

Yes. I agree that you need to know the start and ending point so you can figure out the in between.

As long as we still have willingness to take actions to change our life, we can still do it no matter what age we are. Change starts on us.

    • February 9, 2018 / 5:01 PM

I completely agree. Change begins with us wanting to change.

  85. February 9, 2018 / 2:31 AM

Such a positive way to bring changes to your life. Great post.

  86. February 9, 2018 / 4:36 AM

I really needed to read this, because I’m at a precipice in my life, and I have to make a defining decision with regard to my career, as I can no longer handle the stress and long hours it requires. I’m just going to have to visualize my destination, and step out on faith!

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:12 AM

Yes sweetie! Step out in faith and take that leap!

Being patient while trying to achieve your goals is probably the best advice I ever got. I love to see quick and instant results but that will not happen always.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:09 AM

Yes more often than not we will have to work hard for many years before we see the fruits of our labour.

  88. February 9, 2018 / 6:36 AM

“Build a road map” such a great tip – a lot of insight there! Too often we want to achieve something but don’t make any plans or lists on how to go about it.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:09 AM

Thank you. Yes why do we think that just dreaming is enough? We need to take action too.

    February 9, 2018 / 4:18 PM

I needed this more than you will ever know! I am printing this off and putting it on my fridge 🙂

Wow. That is so great. I am glad that I was able to help you out.

  90. February 10, 2018 / 12:20 AM

I’m working on that “be patient” part. It’s hard when you are working digiliently on something only to not see it happen as quick as you would like.

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:48 PM

It is hard but that is why we need patience. Not everything will be instant.

    February 10, 2018 / 3:09 PM

It’s been a big year so far for me. But I know I would be able to crush new goals without a good plan and support. I really liked your alphabet analogy, to help me order my goals.

  92. February 11, 2018 / 2:38 AM

This post is right up my alley! Thank you for sharing your tips!

  93. February 12, 2018 / 7:22 AM

These are great tips. Thank you for sharing.

  94. February 13, 2018 / 7:01 AM

I definitely believe that sometimes you have to take a step back and re-evaluate. Life shouldn’t be about settling.

    • February 13, 2018 / 8:00 AM

It really shouldn`t but so many of us do it.

  95. February 14, 2018 / 3:05 PM

This really hit home… I am at that point, I feel like I’m all over the place, and I need to re-evaluate my goals and things i want to accomplish! Definitely need to start being more organized !

  96. February 23, 2018 / 7:40 PM

Great tips! I do agree about getting support. Redesigning our life entails getting out of our comfort zone. It’s good to have friends and family who are fully on-board with us.

  99. March 16, 2018 / 6:43 AM

Love this, I think I need to visualise my destination a little bit more and just accept that patience is key.

I stumbled upon your site today and I absolutely love it. For starters, this post hit the nail on the head.
