How To Never Give Up Even When You Want To

How To Never Give Up Even When You Want To

I admit. Sometimes I feel like I want to give up. I feel like it’s just too hard to be successful and that I would rather become a bum. It’s those down days that I have to really dig deep and remember why I started down this road in the first place. I know for many of us, chasing our dreams is hard. You see so many people who just pop up one day and are instantly successful. On the other hand, you’ve been working yourself silly just trying to pop into the thousands on Instagram. It’s okay to feel like you want to give up. You’re only human. What’s not okay is actually giving up, and I’m going to show you how to never give up even when you want to.

Celebrate Small Victories

How To Never Give Up No Matter What- Be Proud Of Your Journey

Giving up is super easy. It is especially easy when it feels like nothing you are doing is working. A great way to combat those negative feelings is to celebrate small victories.

When I started blogging, I was constantly getting annoyed because I never seemed to be where I wanted to be.

As soon as I took a few steps forward, I’d instantly encounter a setback and be flung right back to the beginning again and that really sucked.

One day, I decided to look back at my journey, go over my notes and really see just how far I’d come. I was so busy being upset that I hadn’t realized that I had actually surpassed my goals of getting 100 page views within the first week.

It was crazy and I was super-excited. Soon after, I decided to always celebrate the little things. It made continuing on this path so much easier because I was focusing on the positives that were happening. I ask you to do the same.

Did you gain 10 followers on Instagram? Celebrate that because it is 10 more followers than you had yesterday.

Remind Yourself Of The Why

The longer you chase after your dreams, the more difficult the road becomes. This can cause us to lose sight of why we started.

A great way to not lose sight of your goal is to write it down. Make some space in your office or bedroom and make a clear note of where you want to be in the future.

Hang it up where you can always see it.

When you’re feeling down and not sure what to do next, take a look at it and remind yourself of why you’re doing this.

Remind yourself of all the hard work you’ve put into chasing your dream. Think about all the sacrifices you have made along the way.

Is it really worth it to just give up now? Are you really going to be known as the quitter?

Having a dream is what keeps you going even when life smacks you in the face and tells you to stop Click To Tweet

Never Compare Yourself

How To Never Give Up No Matter What- Don't Compare Yourself

It can be easy for us to compare ourselves to others. It is only human nature. You walk down the road carrying a new bag and immediately see someone with an even better one.

The immediate thought is to compare theirs to yours.

Granted, you have no idea if the bag is even theirs and you don’t know how they even came to acquire said bag yet you do it anyway. The same can be said for other areas of our lives.

Your journey is different. Everyone’s journey is different. Just because it takes you two years versus someone else’s two months means nothing.

I always try to focus on the journey. Even though I want to be successful one day, the more important part for me is everything that I’ve learned along the way.

When I eventually make it to the top, and I know I will because I believe in myself and work very hard, I want to look back at all the wonderful people I met.

I want to remember all the lessons I learned and how much I matured along the way. So please, do not worry about what someone else is doing.

Keep yourself busy working on yours.

Keep Yourself Motivated

Motivation is a difficult skill to master. It is very hard to motivate other people to do anything really.

What’s even harder is trying to motivate yourself. This can get even trickier when you are at the end of your rope and don’t have anything else to hang unto.

So how will you be able to stay motivated when you have ten blog posts due, Instagram and FB posts with no-one to help you out?

There’s no easy fix. I do, however, have a few things you can do to help sustain motivation.

You can:

  • break down your goals into daily, weekly and monthly goals, and give yourself rewards after you have accomplished each one,
  • get help from someone else who has been there before and can help to guide you through the process,
  • make a road-map but be prepared to change course in case things don’t go your way,
  • keep yourself focused on one thing at a time so that you don’t become overwhelmed in the process.

Try One More Time

How To Never Give Up No Matter What- Try

So you’ve had a setback or you failed at something. That’s fine. Many of the most successful people in history have failed multiple times.

A few days ago, I really read through the story of Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

He had so many failures before he finally succeeded in perfecting his recipe for fried chicken. No matter what obstacle was put in his way, Colonel Sanders never gave up.

He always tried one more time.

Look at Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey or even Walt Disney. These very successful people never once gave up no matter what.

They believed in themselves enough and in the power of their dreams. These people knew that no matter how dark it might seem, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

I’m encouraging you. I have failed many times in my life but I was never a failure.

Failing is only a part of the process, what makes you a failure is when you decide to give up.

Keep Running The Race

I know it can be hard, and the journey to success can be long and gruelling. I need you to promise yourself something.

Promise yourself that you will never give up even when you want to. Say to yourself every single day that everything you experience along your journey will all be worth it.

Your mom went through so much to bring you into this world. She had to endure odd cravings, gaining weight and excruciating pain when your time came.

Yet through it all, she never gave up. When the morning sickness was at its highest, she persevered. Even when doctors told her to push, though she was tired, she still got it done.

Your life is worth it, and your dreams are worth it. So believe you can make it and push…..

When we compare ourselves and say “only for now, I need this” – we are doomed. I love this, it is truly encouraging to read something like this!

  5. February 8, 2018 / 6:07 PM

I believe on this quote: “Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” Also, make it a habit to celebrate small victories.

I know how easy is to give up. I just have to star again with my goals for this year because I got to busy with work and too tired at home to do what I proposed to do. I’m so glad I read this article. Tonight I’m going to make my roadmap and the tasks list.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:29 AM

That’s wonderful. I would love to hear about your progress.

This is exactly what I need now. I am a motivated mom who wants to achieve short goals in life despite being a full time mom and a house wife. I was always motivated to stay on track. But when difficulties arise, that is when I feel down and wonder if I can ever make it. But, yeah, just like what you said we have to be optimist and be thankful of our small victory. At least something to push us to go further.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:28 AM

Wow. I am so happy to read your story. I know you are smart and capable of so much so keep going.

  8. February 8, 2018 / 9:44 PM

I love that you mentioned about celebrating the small victories because that’s something that can keep you motivated. These are lovely ideas on how to never give up on the things that you want.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:24 AM

Thank you so much. Small victories really helped to keep me on the right track when it got hard.

  9. February 8, 2018 / 10:31 PM

Success doesn’t happen overnight and the ones that appear to be overnight successes either are faking it, have great connections or got really lucky and featured on a bigger account. Most bloggers that I look up to had to work for a long time to make their brand and site a success. Keep pushing everyone.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:23 AM

Yes. I agree that we should keep pushing and keep working. It will all pay off

  10. February 8, 2018 / 10:34 PM

Yes, I try to always keep going even if I feel frustrated. You just never know what can happen. I used to compare myself to others, but I realized that wasn’t helping anything, so I no longer do it. Everyone is different!

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:19 AM

Yes, we are all unique and there is no need to compare our accomplishments to that of others.

  11. February 8, 2018 / 11:12 PM

To be honest, I have given up on certain things time and time again. I was about to give up blogging because I felt really small around the more established bloggers. One blogger said, “You won’t get to where you want to go with your blog if, you stop now.” By reading your inspirational post, I know now that blogger was right. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will bookmark this post so I can read it when I feel like I want to give up.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:15 AM

Ohh I am so happy to hear that you will not be giving up. Keep working on it, you’re so close.

  12. February 9, 2018 / 12:55 AM

This post was nice to read, it was very inspiring. Even when to her people tell you it isn’t worth it, you cant back down. Thanks for sharing!

  13. February 9, 2018 / 2:17 AM

I love this post! I needed it today. Thank you so much for the inspiration and motivation to keep going.

  14. February 9, 2018 / 4:39 AM

I like your tip about asking someone for advice who has been there. I kind of hate asking for help and being vulnerable but it’s always for the best!

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:10 AM

I think it is a good thing to learn from others who have experienced what you’re going through to avoid the mistakes they made.

  15. February 9, 2018 / 5:08 AM

I especially love the last quote in this post. If I gave up everytime I failed, I never would get anything done!

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:10 AM

Thank goodness you never did! Good luck with all that you’re working on.

  16. February 9, 2018 / 7:41 AM

Such an inspiring and motivating post! It is hard to always be motivated and always good to remember why we are on this particular journey!

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:08 AM

Thank you so much. I know it can be hard but we can do it.

  17. February 9, 2018 / 9:19 AM

It’s really important that you never compare yourself to others. That will make you miserable and never satisfied with whatever you achieve.

    • February 9, 2018 / 10:07 AM

It will make you so miserable. Everyone is different and we need to accept that.

  18. February 9, 2018 / 12:08 PM

Great read! I love the “never compare yourself with others” I think a lot of us do this and that just makes us feel down. We are unique.

  19. February 9, 2018 / 1:30 PM

I love the reminder to celebrate the little things. And to not compare yourself to others. I struggle with comparison!

    • February 9, 2018 / 4:57 PM

Honey, you are wonderful. There is no need to compare yourself to anyone else

  20. February 9, 2018 / 1:36 PM

I love your post. I think staying positive and keep trying are keys to never giving up too. Thanks for sharing.

  21. February 9, 2018 / 1:52 PM

Yes I do agree that never compare yourself. Be happy with what you have and always be grateful.

    • February 9, 2018 / 4:48 PM

Because we were created unique and there is no one like us

  22. February 9, 2018 / 1:59 PM

We all need to be reminded that outward progress doesn’t necessarily reflect or measure inward progress. Our dreams, no matter how big, are not in vain. Just because we don’t see signs of progress now, we can’t grow weary in continuing to build, to give it everything we have heart and soul.

    • February 9, 2018 / 4:39 PM

I completely agree with this. WE need to keep working hard and one day you’ll see the fruits of your labour

  23. February 9, 2018 / 1:59 PM

Yes I agree. Sometimes we can’t see the progress but trust that it is there.

  24. February 9, 2018 / 2:12 PM

I think whenever I am in a tough situation and need some motivation to keep going on, I keep reminding myself the reason I am doing this. Also, I think your tip on celebrating small victories is very important to keep your head in focus

    • February 9, 2018 / 4:17 PM

That’s good. Continue celebrating the small things

    February 9, 2018 / 11:37 PM

Comparing with others is one of the major reasons why people tend to give up. You are right that we have to find reasons to motivate ourselves to move on, even if it’s those 10 new Instagram followers or blog readers.

  27. February 10, 2018 / 12:31 AM

Such a Great Topic! am totally agree with all the points, especially Why”. It is hard to remain motivated and focused if strong “Why” is missing

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:47 PM

Yes, so many people do it for the wrong reasons and because of that they easily give up. If you have great reasons to go after things you’ll be fine

    February 10, 2018 / 12:34 AM

That was beautiful! Everyone needs to remember these things on a daily basis! Thank you for staying so positive and reminding others to do the same!

  29. February 10, 2018 / 3:17 AM

I have given up on a lot of things, that I regret later on. I’m working hard on sticking with things! It’s also so hard not to compare myself to others, in all aspects of my life. It’s a hard habit to break.

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:45 PM

It is a hard habit to break but that’s why we need to be disciplined and deliberate in our actions.

  30. February 10, 2018 / 3:35 AM

These are some great tips, sometimes when times are hard it really does feel like it would be easier giving up but if you remember to celebrate the small things it can make a bit difference.

  31. February 10, 2018 / 3:44 AM

Very interesting and informative post. I agree with you regarding “sometimes we can’t see the progress but trust that it is there” is really hard sometimes. But staying motivated and not comparing ourselves is always great.

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:43 PM

Thank you so much for mentioning that again. It is so important

  32. February 10, 2018 / 4:36 AM

I have felt like giving up before. I felt like I was drowning in a dark and stormy sea. If I hadn’t reached out for help, I’m not sure how long I would have lasted.

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:42 PM

Oh no. I am happy that you did not stay in that dark place of despair and found hope 🙂

  33. February 10, 2018 / 4:46 AM

These are all great tips! I especially like remindeing yourself of the why and not comparing yourself. We definitely always need to feel accomplished or like we are doing at least as much as someone else. Never anythign wrong with going at your own pace and keeping your goal in mind!

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:41 PM

That is so true. Keep your eyes on your progress and stop looking at everyone elses

  35. February 10, 2018 / 7:45 AM

So true, and I needed to read this more than ever! It’s so easy to lose focus of what you want when the road gets tough, and I agree that it’s important to give yourself small tasks and goals and take it one day at a time.

Aww I am so happy to hear that. Pace yourself on your journey and you will be okay.

I have always been on to never give up. There are some things that have definitely challenged me over the years but I’ve always managed to persevere. Great tips!

  37. February 10, 2018 / 9:08 AM

There are plenty of situations where giving up is an easy option, but few things worth having in life come easy. These are all wonderful things to keep in mind when one is lacking motivation.

  38. February 10, 2018 / 11:13 AM

I couldn’t agree more to remember the why of why we started.

  39. Jessica Taylor
    February 10, 2018 / 11:43 AM

I love that you included not to compare yourself to others. Its easy to give up when you feel less equal to peers.

  40. February 10, 2018 / 12:20 PM

I totally agree, especially to not comparing yourself to others as we’re all taking on different challenges and we all go at our own paces. So we don’t really know what’s going on in other people’s lives. Thanks for this article. Sometimes, we already know these, we just need a reminder. <3

    • February 10, 2018 / 2:34 PM

Thank you. Yes, I think if we realize that we aren’t alone it helps

  41. February 10, 2018 / 12:47 PM

  44. February 11, 2018 / 1:27 AM

You are so inspiring and SO right! Everything worthwhile will challenge every part of your being. My favorite bit of your advice is the “try one more time”. You never know what would happen the next time you try until you do it.

This is some really amazing advice. Staying with things will go a very long way!

  52. February 11, 2018 / 9:48 AM

I totally agree with your post, the victories are not what makes us brave, but the resilience of getting up again when we fall, again and again, no matter how many times it is. Very good tips to not give up, thanks for sharing.

This is so profound. I truly believe that resilience is what really makes us true winners.

  53. February 11, 2018 / 10:20 AM

I really like the idea of posting your why up so you remember what you are doing and why you are doing it. It’s easy to lose focus sometime and it helps not to lose focus that way. And yes you do have to keep trying and remember that failure is a part of the growing process.

    • February 11, 2018 / 6:28 PM

These are such great advices – I wish it was easier said than done. It has become a habit to compare myself to others and I think it’s hard not to especially when there are expectations. I like the idea of celebrating small victories and reminding ourselves of the reasons why. Mindfulness is key to never giving up!

    • February 11, 2018 / 4:39 PM

The thing about comparison is that will always be someone better. The only person you need to compare yourself to is you

  58. February 11, 2018 / 4:35 PM

I get what you are saying but there are lessons to be learned from giving up to. When I studying I learned to pick my fights and let some others go. That’s how I got to have a PhD in 3,5 years.

Yes we do. Just keep pushing and it will happen!

What a deep thought provoking post. We have to constantly motivate ourselves to manifest what we want!

    • February 12, 2018 / 11:25 AM

Yes we do. It can be so easy to forget that

Not comparing yourself to others is such a struggle. I constantly find myself thinking “well, shit, she’s 4 years younger than me and a million times more successful” and getting down about it – time to adjust my way of thinking!

    • February 20, 2018 / 10:23 AM

That kind of thinking will only prevent you from getting to the place you’re going. Keep your eyes on the prize and you will be okay

I have always been guilty of comparing myself to my contemporaries. It’s like my head is full of whys and regrets. But after reading this, I have become more determined to keep moving forward.

    • February 20, 2018 / 10:19 AM

That is so good to hear. Trust me when I say that comparing yourself to other people does nothing but steal your joy!

You have no idea how much I needed this post today! AND this quote: “Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” Marilyn vos Savant Tattooing that to my brain!

It can be so easy to just want to quit and say well I tried. Fear definitely has a part on that. But it’s definitely like you said reminding us about the Why to keep as motivation for all the times when we just want to not keep pushing ahead.

    • February 17, 2018 / 4:39 PM

Yes I agree. Consistently remembering the why helps me so much

  80. February 13, 2018 / 9:52 PM

This post is very encouraging and it has a lot of great motivations to help push us through. Life can really be tough sometimes even when you have somewhat achieved success. I often have to remind myself that failure is the road to success. I will always try to push myself to start over again if I don’t succeed the first time.

    • February 14, 2018 / 12:05 PM

That is a great mindset. Keep pushing even when you fail.

What a super encouraging post! There are definitely many times we all feel like giving up, but if we just find that internal motivation and keep going, things always seem to get better.

  84. February 14, 2018 / 6:38 PM

So so true. It’s so easy to compare ourselves with others, get discouraged, and feel defeated. I find that the number one way I keep that “growth mindset” and keep going…remembering why I’m doing it. I worry less about what other’s think, who is following or unfollowing me, etc. What’s important to me is that I started to change my life and my kids’ lives in meaningful ways. And I’m going to stick with it!

Great post, and such a fantastic reminder to keep working hard for what we want.

  89. March 13, 2018 / 5:43 PM

Sometimes Its not easy you know? Sometimes you feel like everyone will just be fine without you.. and it hurts.

Sometimes you can’t help to ask yourself is it worth it to keep going?

    • March 13, 2018 / 7:54 PM

I think that no matter how badly you might feel it is always worth it to keep going just one more time
