How To Practice Self Care Like A BAWSE

How To Practice Self Care Like A BAWSE

When you think of self care, what comes to mind? Do you often even hear the words “self-care” in a conversation? Self-care ideally means any activity that you take part in that allows you to take charge of your mental, emotional and physical health. Ten years ago, it wasn’t a very popular term.

It was also often thought to be an alternative form of explaining how to care for the elderly. It is truly a relief that self care is no longer a thing of the past and is now openly discussed and practised. As a busy young adult, however, it might be difficult finding the time to really practice self care; as important as it is. It can also be harmful to not practice self care at all. If this is you, no need to worry. In this post, I will list simple ways to show you how to practice self-care like a bawse.

“Don’t sacrifice yourself too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give and nobody will care for you.” ~ Karl Lagerfeld

How To Practice Self Care Like a BAWSE

“Bawse” is a term that was coined by famed YouTuber Lilly Singh. A bawse is someone who doesn’t just go along for the ride, they take control of the reigns and steer the car in whatever direction they need to go.

They don’t just try their best to cope with life, they slay it. I am an aspiring bawse and I can tell that you are too and in order to take on the world, we need to find simple ways to take care of ourselves.

Don’t be intimidated by the list as each activity can be done in less than ten minutes a day. Let’s get started.

Can You Commit To Taking Care Of Yourself?

As I said before, I know that you a busy young adult trying to be successful in your field. I also know that that you only have so much time to rest and recoup after a long day at the office.

Well you’re in luck. I promise you that if you can commit to doing at least ONE of these activities per day, you will see a vast improvement in the way you feel each day.

Your eyes will glow brighter. Your smile will be that much whiter and you will accomplish, so much you’ll surprise even yourself.

Self care is incredibly important. I tend to read for my self care, because I love books. I need to take a nice bath at some point. I haven’t had one in ages.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:28 AM

Me either since I don`t really have a bath tub but I like long showers as those really set me up for a great day.

  2. January 22, 2018 / 11:58 AM

My day just became happier after reading this! Caring for oneself like a BAWSE is just as simple as smiling at yourself in the mirror! 😀

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:27 AM

It is. Sometimes the simplest things are the most effective.

This is all such great advice. Self care is so important and something I have just recently learned about. The thing that helps me most is surrounding myself with positive individuals and getting rid of the toxic people. That alone changed my life. Thanks for sharing xx

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:25 AM

That is great. I am happy that you are taking charge of your health and taking steps to ensure that you are properly taken care of.

These are really great I need to focus more on self care since I tend to forget that I too need to be taken care of. It’s time I be BAWSE

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:21 AM

Great. I know that you will see such a difference in the way you feel and go about your day.

  8. January 22, 2018 / 11:24 PM

I have never heard of the term BAWSE before, but I like it! Self-care is so important, and I am finally realizing that it is okay to do things for myself every once in a while.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:20 AM

It truly is okay because if you cannot take care of yourself, you will end up useless to the world.

  9. January 22, 2018 / 11:30 PM

i always try to learn new things for my selfcare =)

  10. January 23, 2018 / 1:42 AM

These are all excellent self care tips. I really need to practice this more. I feel like from the moment I get up, to the moment I go to bed, I never take even a minute for myself.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:16 AM

Oh wow. You sound really busy. These days my week has become so hectic that I have to be purposeful about self care. Otherwise it would never fit into my schedule.

  11. January 23, 2018 / 1:49 AM

Great post! I especially like the idea of surrounding oneself with positive influences and people, doing something kind for someone else, and being thankful. I think being thankful and content with what one already has can really help in being the self we were created to be.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:15 AM

That is so true. So many think that self care only involves you, but if you can put others first at times, it really benefits you in the long term.

  12. January 23, 2018 / 2:03 AM

I have to admit I’ve never heard of Bawse before, but it sounds like a place so many people would want to be, taking the reigns, being fully in control and looking out for number one.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:13 AM

It is a relatively new concept but it definitely helps you to change your mindset once you understand who a bawse is and strive to be one.

  13. January 23, 2018 / 2:58 AM

It is so important to have our own time, I love to visit the Spa, a nice pedicure or just read a good book.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:12 AM

That:s so nice to hear. Glad you are taking care of yourself 🙂

  14. January 23, 2018 / 4:20 AM

I actually need to practice self care myself ! I have 2 kids and i struggle putting myself first sometimes, if i dont take care of myself inwont be able to take care of others! Thabk you for the reminder! And ill make sure i eat a healthy breakfast 😀😀

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:09 AM

Great. I understand that it can be difficult to remember, in the midst of managing children and a household, to invest in ourselves. I am glad that you recognize the importance of doing so and will make strategic moves to incorporate self care into your life.

  15. January 23, 2018 / 4:48 AM

I really resonated with the Karl Lagerfield quote. Thank you for this today!

  16. January 23, 2018 / 4:57 AM

It’s so fascinating that self care is a new concept when it is really a fundamental key to our success mentally and physically. Craziness! I also have aspirations to live like a bawse and it is key that we take care of ourselves so that we can control other areas in our life such as our professions. Great tips! I will definitely be incorporating a couple of them into my 2018 goals such as 2 and 26.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:07 AM

Isn`t it the strangest thing? Many people practiced it but never knew what it meant. Am happy to hear that you aspire to become a bawse and have complete faith that you can do it!

  17. January 23, 2018 / 6:36 AM

I didn’t even know that term bawse before. You learn something every day! Self care is on my resolution list this year and this is going to help a lot!

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:05 AM

For the longest while I never knew about it either but since learning the term and what it means, it has definitely helped me to see things in a different light.

  18. January 23, 2018 / 6:43 AM

YES to all of these! As Mom of 2 little boys, it’s hard to practice self-care but I swear it makes a world of difference!

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:04 AM

It definitely does. I am so happy that you find time to do the things you love and that keep you taking care of myself in-spite of being busy. Props to you!

  19. January 23, 2018 / 7:13 AM

Disconnecting from social media is so important. We see people’s Bawse lives on instagram and it detracts us because we compare our selves to their “success.” great tips.

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:03 AM

Yes if there is one thing we should do in 2018 it is to stop comparing our lives to everyone elses. No-one is as perfect as they seem on social media and that is perfectly okay

  20. January 23, 2018 / 7:40 AM

These are so great, thanks so much for sharing! Self care is super important. I’ll definitely be adding some of these to my daily routine. 🙂

Wonderful! I can see you`re on your way to becoming a bawse already.

  21. January 23, 2018 / 10:24 AM

I wanna be a bawse! Haha, I like how uplifting this post is and all of these tips are perfect ways to promote our self care! But…I especially love tip #7! I’ll just have to shew my kids out of my room while I do that 🙂

    • January 23, 2018 / 10:59 AM

You can be a bawse if you take charge of your life and never give up trying to succeed. 🙂
I am happy to hear that you find my tips helpful!

  22. January 23, 2018 / 12:14 PM

Great list! Self-care really is ridiculously important… It’s crazy to think that it’s only recently been given the importance it deserves. With how busy our lives get and how productivity-based society is, how in the world are we supposed to function without remembering to take some time for ourselves?

    I can’t read enough of this topic! It’s always a helpful reminder…

Love your quote by Karl Lagerfield! You definitely have to take care of you before you can help others

    • January 23, 2018 / 2:24 PM

    January 23, 2018 / 2:54 PM

I am so guilty of putting others before myself. I need to do like you say and learn to practice self care like a BOSS! (Oh, and I could actually go for that long hot bath you mentioned right about now!)

    • January 23, 2018 / 3:23 PM

Long, warm baths make such a difference after a long day. It is just the best thing in the world. Even a long, warm shower will do!

    January 23, 2018 / 3:27 PM

This is such a great reminder! We all need to take care of and treat ourselves regularly. I want to start doing more of the things on this list, especially #20!

  26. January 23, 2018 / 3:32 PM

Self care is something we generally forget while caring for our loved ones and running to catch up with the speed of our busy lives. Thanks for reminding the importance of self care. I agree we need to care for ourself enough to be able to care for others.

  27. January 23, 2018 / 5:10 PM

Self care is so important. Reading this has just reminded me that I need to care more of myself. Sometimes you have to be a little selfish and take care of you first. Because if you are happy everyone around you will be.

  28. January 23, 2018 / 5:42 PM

I practice self care daily and it makes me better at all i need to do and be for others.

  29. January 23, 2018 / 5:49 PM

I love this quote! “Don’t sacrifice yourself too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give and nobody will care for you.” ~ Karl Lagerfeld. This is really true. We need to give ample time for ourselves.

  30. January 23, 2018 / 8:11 PM

The most important thing in one human’s life is that he needs to take care of himself.

  31. January 23, 2018 / 11:04 PM

I definitely need to get better at eating breakfast each day and I like the sound of smiling at ourselves in the mirror. I tend to be very critical of my self so I like the idea of being nicer to myself!

    • January 24, 2018 / 8:34 PM

Ye. I think if we are nicer to ourselves that translates to how we see ourselves and how we treat others.

  32. January 23, 2018 / 11:04 PM

These are great tips for self care. I need this. I’m so bad at putting myself first. I need to work on that and chill. Hmm maybe I’ll go for a mani/pedi today.

I am so happy you came across this post. Take care of yourself, alright!

  65. There are so many different ways that you can do self care and be a “bawse.” Sometimes it’s easy to allow yourself to get swept up in everything that goes on and lose yourself to all around you. But you do need to keep going back to find your center and be yourself.

    • January 25, 2018 / 1:09 PM

Yes I agree. Self care is possible in so many ways. We just need to remember how important it is and get it done.

I think it is so important to not give into the negativity that is thrown your way. It all comes down to empowering yourself and being an overall #BAWSE.

It’s awesome to be able to take care of yourself. You’ll feel more confident to reach for your goals in life and you’ll feel so much better as well. I think it’s important that we schedule a time wherein we can focus on ourselves, our wants, and needs.

    • January 29, 2018 / 8:31 AM

I completely agree. When you take time for you, you are so much more equipped to take on the world.

Self care is something I see often now and im so glad. I remember when it used to be considered selfish which it for sure isn’t! Thank you also for the list, I’m going to toss some of those into my day. The healthy breakfast I really need to work on!

  83. February 19, 2018 / 7:29 PM

This is so inspiring! Self-care seems like such big rocket science when people talk about it! But it is those little things you do for yourself that will keep your mind body and soul clear and happy! Thanks for putting together this post to make me understand it!

    • February 20, 2018 / 8:12 AM

You are so welcome and you are so right. Self care is as complex as you make it.

  84. February 20, 2018 / 11:23 PM

This is awesome! Unfortunately it wasn’t something I consciously made an effort to do until after a painful breakup late last year. Still working on getting better at it each day. I even wrote out a complete self care manifesto after deciding 2018 will be my year. ❤

    • February 24, 2018 / 4:57 PM

Wow. I’m so sorry to hear about your break up but so happy you have taken up self care

  85. February 25, 2018 / 12:01 AM

Love this! My favorite is: make your favorite meal and enjoy it slowly. In my case it’s a chocolate bar, and it’s hard to eat it slow. 🙈
